Tips and Tricks for Sofa Heroes Day 6: Apps

my hand is YUGE - not as yuge as the importance of helping more people have access to feeling better!

Hi Everyone!

Just a short little post today sharing my favorite apps. I use an Android phone so you may have to check for alternatives for Apple or XBox store users.

As I mentioned before, Headspace is an amazing app for meditation. There is a free version which offers the basic meditation foundation packs, and then you can join a subscription for access to all the content on Headspace.

Brain Focus is what they call a pomodoro timer, it's a multi function timer that helps you designate a certain amount of time for activity and a certain amount of time for rest. I use this especially on very busy days when I need to make sure I designate time for rest. You can adjust all the times yourself, for example work 30 minutes, rest for 5 minutes, and after 3 work sessions take a 20 minute rest.

There are a lot of versions of pomodoro timers, so you can do a search for one that works best for you.

Super Better is an app designed by game designer Jane McGonigal who has an awesome TED talk on her experience with a brain injury that led her to develop positive tools for recovery.  Super Better works best if you have family members or friends who will cheer you on, but also has great tools you can use alone to develop resilience and deal with the darker moments of being ill.

I already mentioned Twilight in a previous post on sleep that will limit the blue light on your phone after sundown. I haven't found an alternative for Apple yet, but there are some options out there.

I'll talk more about bio-tracker apps in a future post - but for now I hope this helps!

  1. Great suggestions for these apps. Especially brain focus as I find it really hard to pace myself when working. This should help! Cool blog. Thanks for your efforts and hope it's helping you too.
